The online platform of "Aravot" (aravot.am) was launched in 1998, making it one of the first news websites in Armenia. Since 2013, the website has been updated in real-time.


Before that, the "Aravot" daily newspaper was first published in 1994, founded by politician, writer, and publicist Vano Siradeghyan.


Aram Abrahamyan is the owner and editor-in-chief of the newspaper, while Anna Israelyan is the editor of the online version.


The media outlet covers a wide range of topics, including political, economic, social, and cultural issues.


Throughout its operation, "Aravot" has found itself  at the center of various incidents and has been subjected to censorship, pressures, including physical violence.

Aram Abrahamyan is the 100% shareholder of the Aravot Oratert LLC, the publisher of the daily Aravot newspaper and online media aravot.am.

Voting RightsAccording to the charter of "Aravot Oratert" LLC, the supreme governing body of the company is the general meeting of the participants, which has the right to make final decisions on any issue concerning the management and activities of the company. During voting, the participants of the company have a number of votes corresponding to their shares in the company's charter capital. In this case, the sole participant and 100% shareholder is Aram Abrahamyan. The current activity of the company is managed by the director, who is elected by the general meeting of the participants for a term of 3 years. The director has the right to conduct transactions on behalf of the company without authorization, if the amount of the transaction does not exceed 25 percent of the net assets.

  • Aram Abrahamyan

    Aram Abrahamyan has been the editor-in-chief of "Aravot" daily newspaper since 1994, and founded aravot.am website in 1999. He was born on February 17, 1960, in Yerevan. Before entering journalism, from 1978-1983, he studied in the music department of the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory. From 1983-1986, he taught singing in Ddmashen village of Gegharkunik region. From 1986-1991, he worked at the NAS RA Institute of Arts as a researcher and scientific secretary. From 1991-1992, he was the editor-in-chief of "A1+" studio, and from 1992-1994, he served as the press secretary for Armenia's first president, Levon Ter-Petrosyan. His works have been published in "Aravot," "Republic of Armenia," "Республика Армения" (Respublika Armenia), and other periodicals. From 2011-2021, he hosted the "Horizon" news program on "Shant" TV station and worked as a political commentator. From 2014-2016, he hosted the "Artkanon" program series on Armenian Public Television. Since September 2021, he has been working at Factor TV as the host of the "A-politic" program series.

    Garik Melkonyan has served as director of the national daily newspaper "Aravot" since April 1, 2014. Despite his prominent position in Armenian media, publicly available information about his professional and educational background remains extremely limited beyond his current role.

    No credible Armenian sources provide details about his previous employment, education, or professional affiliations prior to joining Aravot.

  • Anna Israelyan

    Anna Israelyan has been the editor of "Aravot" daily's online version since 2011. She was born on November 4, 1966, in Yerevan. From 1984 to 1989, she studied in the journalism department of Yerevan State University's Faculty of Philology. During her student years, she actively participated in environmental demonstrations and the Karabakh Movement.

    Shortly after the movement, Anna Israelyan began working in the press of the newly independent republic. At that time, she contributed to the "Hayk" and "Azg" newspapers. "Hayk" was the official newspaper of the ruling Armenian Pan-National Movement (ANM). Israelyan attended all open sessions of the party.

    From 1993 to 2018, she worked at the Yerevan office of "Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty." From 1997 to 2001, she was a correspondent for the "Aravot" daily newspaper.
