Iravunk newspaper was founded in 1989 as the official publication of the Constitutional Rights Union party, led by Hrant Khachatryan. The newspaper was established to serve as the party's media voice.

Publication of Iravunk ceased on February 20, 2007, due to a power struggle within the Constitutional Rights Union between party chairman Hrant Khachatryan and vice-chairman Hayk Babukhanyan. The conflict began in September 2006 when a party congress elected Khachatryan as honorary chairman while Babukhanyan assumed the position of council chairman. Although Khachatryan had initially stated his intention to leave politics, he reversed course and filed a lawsuit. On January 31, 2007, the court annulled the congress decision and restored him to the chairman position.

Babukhanyan and Iravunk editor-in-chief Hovhannes Galajyan founded their own newspaper, Iskakan Iravunk (Real Right), on February 27, 2007. Galajyan and director Gegham Grigoryan filed suit demanding reinstatement to their positions at Iravunk. The court ruled in their favor on November 20, 2007, ordering their restoration.

The intra-party dispute was resolved when publication of Iravunk resumed on June 3, 2008, under the leadership of Hovhannes Galajyan and Gegham Grigoryan, with Hayk Babukhanyan returning as editorial board chairman.

Iravunk is published three times weekly on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Part of the newspaper's archive is available on iravunk.com, which presents materials from the print edition as well as information about Iravunk Media Holding and the Constitutional Rights Union party.

The entity conducting Iravunk's news activities, as indicated in the print version, is Iravunk Media LLC. However, the certificate and registration date of this entity correspond to Iravunk Tert (Iravunk Newspaper) LLC, which was established in 2019. According to the 2025 income tax declaration, the owners of this company are Ilona Azaryan and Armen Gevorgyan, who are listed in Iravunk Media Holding's staff as journalist and publisher of Iravunk respectively. The founding president of the holding is Hayk Babukhanyan, who holds 52% of the shares in Iravunk Media LLC.

Following the death of Hovhannes Galajyan, the newspaper has not indicated an editor-in-chief.

Ownership Structure

Two companies operate under the Iravunk brand with overlapping but distinct roles. Iravunk Tert LLC, established in 2019, conducts publication of the print newspaper. Iravunk Media LLC operates as the media holding company that encompasses the print newspaper, the iravunk.com website, ITV television company, and the Russian-language newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda v Armenii. However, inconsistencies appear in different issues of the printed newspaper: some identify the publisher as Iravunk Tert LLC with the corresponding registration number, while others list Iravunk Media LLC but cite Iravunk Tert's certificate number.

The Babukhanyan family holds 54% of shares in Iravunk Media LLC, the Grigoryan family holds 24%, and the Galajyan family holds the remaining 24%. Iravunk Tert LLC has two shareholders: Ilona Azaryan and Armen Gevorgyan, each holding 50%.

  • Gergham Grigoryan

Gegham Grigoryan serves as director of both Iravunk Media LLC and Iravunk Tert LLC. He holds 24% ownership in Iravunk Media LLC and is a member of the presidency of the Constitutional Rights Union party.

Grigoryan has been involved with Iravunk newspaper since at least 2007, when he served as director during the intra-party dispute within the Constitutional Rights Union. In that role, he joined editor-in-chief Hovhannes Galajyan in filing suit demanding reinstatement to their positions after the newspaper's publication was suspended. The court ruled in their favor on November 20, 2007, ordering their restoration. When Iravunk resumed publication on June 3, 2008, Grigoryan returned as director.

A discrepancy exists in ownership documentation: according to the December 2024 amendment to the charter of Iravunk Media LLC, 24% of the company is owned by Levon Grigoryan (patronymic: Gegham). However, in the 2025 beneficial ownership declaration, Levon Grigoryan's name is absent and the 24% stake is attributed to Gegham Grigoryan.
