Founding Year2004
Founder
  • Satik Seyranyan

Satik Seyranyan has served as founder and editor-in-chief of "168 Zham" newspaper and its digital platform 168.am since 2004. She has held the presidency of Armenia's Journalists' Union since 2017, positioning her as a prominent figure in the country's media landscape.

Born February 20, 1974, in Yerevan, Seyranyan graduated from Yerevan State University's Faculty of Philology. Her journalism career began during her school years at "Pioneer Kanach" newspaper, followed by editorial positions at several prominent Armenian publications including "Shrjan," "Haykakan Zhamanak," and "Aravot," as well as Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

Beyond her editorial work, Seyranyan founded the Independent Media Support Foundation in 2004, demonstrating her commitment to press freedom and media development in Armenia. Her involvement in public life extended to politics in 2012, when she temporarily stepped down as editor-in-chief to run for parliament in Yerevan's Arabkir district under the majoritarian system. She lost the election to Republican Party candidate Artak Sargsyan, owner of the "SAS" supermarket chain, and subsequently returned to her editorial role.

In recognition of her journalistic contributions, President Serzh Sargsyan awarded Seyranyan the Movses Khorenatsi Medal in 2018, one of Armenia's highest honors for achievements in journalism and media.
