Satik Seyranyan has served as founder and editor-in-chief of "168 Zham" newspaper and its digital platform 168.am since 2004. She has held the presidency of Armenia's Journalists' Union since 2017, positioning her as a prominent figure in the country's media landscape.

Born February 20, 1974, in Yerevan, Seyranyan graduated from Yerevan State University's Faculty of Philology. Her journalism career began during her school years at "Pioneer Kanach" newspaper, followed by editorial positions at several prominent Armenian publications including "Shrjan," "Haykakan Zhamanak," and "Aravot," as well as Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

From December 2012 to May 2018, she hosted her original program, "R-Evolution," on the "Armenia" TV channel. Within the scope of this program, she conducted interviews with various political figures regarding ongoing political processes.

Beyond her editorial work, Seyranyan founded the Independent Media Support Foundation in 2004, demonstrating her commitment to press freedom and media development in Armenia. Her involvement in public life extended to politics in 2012, when she temporarily stepped down as editor-in-chief to run for parliament in Yerevan's Arabkir district under the majoritarian system. She lost the election to Republican Party candidate Artak Sargsyan, owner of the "SAS" supermarket chain, and subsequently returned to her editorial role.

In recognition of her journalistic contributions, President Serzh Sargsyan awarded Seyranyan the Movses Khorenatsi Medal in 2018, one of Armenia's highest honors for achievements in journalism and media.

  • Hovhannes Shahinyan
Hovhannes Shahinyan is the former husband of Satik Seyranyan. He served as head of Yerevan's Arabkir administrative district from 2006 to 2007, and his political career has been marked by shifting party affiliations and unsuccessful electoral bids. Shahinyan maintained membership in the Republican Party of Armenia from 2006 to 2012 before joining the Country of Law (Orinats Yerkir) party in 2013. That same year, he ran as the second candidate on the party's list for Yerevan City Council elections but failed to secure a mandate. His most recent political attempt came ahead of the 2023 Yerevan City Council elections, when he announced his intention to run for mayor on the "Public Voice" party ticket, led by Vardan Ghukasyan. However, he was ultimately excluded from the party list entirely. Shahinyan's administrative tenure has come under serious legal scrutiny. In 2024, Armenia's Investigative Committee brought multiple corruption charges against him related to his time as Arabkir district head. The charges include illegal privatization of protected land plots, orchestrating fraudulent auctions, and money laundering involving substantial sums obtained through criminal activity. These allegations represent significant abuse of public office during his administrative role.
